On 10th May 2015, the Libyan Bar Association held a demonstration to protest against the increasing phenomenon of assaults on lawyers and people connected with the legal profession in the recent months.
Libyan lawyers gathered in strong condemnation of the gross violations of Human Rights occurring throughout Libya and in particular the targeting of the Judiciary. Lawyers took the initiative on 10th May 2015 to gather at the Tripoli Courts Complex. During the demonstration a declaration was announced condemning all forms of systematic violation and attacks at several levels against Libyan voices, expressing their opinion against the assaults in general and in particular the targeted attacks against lawyers by kidnapping, assassination, arbitrary arrest and detention, and warning all those who committed such crimes or participated in them that the state of law will follow them and call them to justice sooner or later.

Dr El-Atrash took part in a programme on Al-Qana channel, in which he commented on the failure of ongoing talks between the Libyan parties in Morocco, in the light of the latest developments and on Mr. Leon’s comments to the media after briefing the Security Council on Libya.
While Dr El-Atrash shares the view of Mr. Leon that “ …. there won’t be in Libya a military solution. At least for the moment, you can’t see any of the military actors strong enough to impose completely on the other…”, he expressed his opinion that difficulties arise from the fact that both parties claim to represent the Libya’s aspirations, while neither is capable of realizing the seriousness of the situation and the implications of losing this opportunity to reach a fair solution to the current deadlock, in which the country is drifting toward a mysterious future. In his view, the individuals chosen to conduct the current dialogue lack expertise and know-how and thus neither their methodology nor their terminology appear to conform to internationally recognized definitions.
Finally, Dr. El-Atrash pointed out that the participants seem not to be fully aware of how the crisis in Libya is affecting the international community since in today‘s world, no country enjoys the liberty to apply what it considers its absolute right and therefore the message sent by the UN envoy through the Security Council will no doubt be translated to a tougher stand by the international community in a very short time.

Captain Vitaliy Khariton & representative of local agent
El-Atrash Law Office is currently defending the interests of the Owners of the M/V Aviva, which has been detained in the port of Misurata since January 18, 2015. Despite serious violations of law and procedure during the seizure of the vessel and the pronouncement of judgment no. 237/2015 dismissing the seizure order obtained by the claimants, we were unable to release the vessel and its Ukrainian crew to date. We express our deep pain and disappointment in the face of this unlawful behaviour and lack of respect for the law both in letter and spirit.
Dr El-Atrash took part in a programme on Al-Qana channel, in which he commented on the Libyan national dialogue.
